YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, Calif. (AP) - National Park Service officials are asking the public for suggestions that could be incorporated into renovation of the state's first lodge-based ski resort at Badger Pass.

The decaying foundation of the 1935-era Swiss chalet has made repairs necessary. But balancing historic preservation with modern conveniences and safety standards is the challenge.

Currently the cross-country ski rental shop is housed in a doublewide trailer in the parking lot. Expanding the lodge to make room for rentals would change its design character. A new building also might affect sensitive meadows.

A spokesman says the park could spend $30 million on the project.
