NEAR REDMOND, Ore. - Central Oregon's famous outdoor rock climbing playground and state park offers challenges for climbers of all abilities - from beginner to expert.

"Smith Rock is great because it's got some world-class sport climbing," said climber Sam Morrison, an intermediate-level climber.

For beginners who perhaps have only tried rock climbing at an indoor facility, Smith Rock offers a test of one's abilities.

"It's kind of hard just because I've done indoor climbing and not outdoor climbing," said Max Morrison.  "Outdoor climbing is a lot different because there aren't as many easy holds to grab onto and you actually have to plan out your route and stuff."
