PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A man who fell 200 feet on Mount Hood credits "good karma" with helping him avoid more serious injuries.

Michael Leming briefly met reporters Sunday in his hospital room at Oregon Health & Science University. He had casts on both legs.

The 45-year-old says he and a group of friends were chipping at some ice near the summit while climbing the mountain Saturday morning. Then the ice broke and he fell backward.

Leming, a Nike recruiter, credits rescue volunteers for helping him off the mountain.

Leming is himself a Portland Mountain Rescue volunteer. He plans to continue that work, but says he will avoid some of group's more technically advanced work.
