FILE - In this June 26, 2009 file photo, murder suspect Raffaele Sollecito is escorted by a penitentiary police officer as he arrives for a hearing in the Meredith Kercher murder trial, in Perugia, Italy. Sollecito, whose budding love affair with American exchange student Amanda Knox helped land him in an Italian prison for four years, maintains the couple's innocence in a new book but acknowledges that their sometimes bizarre behavior after her roommate's killing gave police reason for suspicion. (AP Photo/Stefano Medici, File)
The co-author of a new book about the Amanda Knox murder case says her former boyfriend's commitment to her eventually helped set both of them free.
Andrew Gumbel is the man who helped Raffaele Sollecito tell his side of the story. He spoke with KOMO’s Jane Shannon and Tom Hutyler:
Raffaele is a respectful man . The bs he gets on Facebook and how he handles the bs with dignity amazes me . I think we could all have a bit of raffaele in us we be better off
Raffaele and his family should be happy with the thought that the number of people who think that they are guilty has diminished dramatically. There are now just a few horrid people spreading lies. When Raf and Amanda are 100% free on 26th March, PMF, TJMK etc will be the lunatic conspiracy theorists with no life that we all know them too be :O) It has been such a pleasure to meet so many good people that have supported these two innocent people. I was a guilter the first few months of this case but thankfully decency and common sense overcame me :)
For anyone interested in paying respect to Meredith the above pages is a great place. Bully free, respectful and most importantly it really does respect the kerchers. RIP Meredith!!!!
Watch  theJane Velez Mitchel interview of Sollecito last week.. Two respected guests Wendy Murphy and  Levi Page think he is guilty. More than just a handful believe he is guilty I assure you. Even Katie Couric was more than a little frosty and asked some pointed questions.
@leanne Hilarious. Wendy Murphy did not even know John Kercher has a book out. Disgraceful and embarrasing FAIL. Her knowledge on Mr Kercher's book matches her knowledge of this case.
@leanne By the way my comments about John Kercher's book "Meredith" may be hard for you to swallow, but it is the truth. Facts Leanne. Come March you guilters are going to have to focus on the sole murderer, Rudy Guede. You know both defense and prosecution experts testified more than one killer was unlikely right? Good.
@leanne Her lack of knowledge of the book shows exactly how clueless she is Leanne. I was embarrassed for her. John Kercher's book contained a few chapters about Meredith. The rest was proven lies about Knox. It is a real shame the family have been misled and abused by the prosecution in such a time of grief. But fear not, the veil is lifting :) No evidence. Unless you think Amanda levitated over the murder scene.
John Kercher's quiet tribute to his daughter is very different publication .We won't see him on CNN Â or CBS. Knowledge of the book written this year does nothing to undermine Wendy Murphy or her belief in his guilt,
@leanne seen it. though i seem to have interpreted things a little bit differently. katie couric was professional and asked the questions that was necessary. it would not have been a good interview otherwise.
It is important that people such as Raffaele speaks out. he is an honest and good man. The Kerchers need to read this book, instead of listening to mignini and co. They need to hear the truth!! Good luck RafÂ
411 at Pmf. Do please copy and paste where I said I cared more about this case than the Kercher's? More rubbish. You people are crazy, deluded and plain wrong. Twist twist twist everything but it changes nothing.
The Kerchers are not deluded or wrong in their opinion. So have some respect for the family and stop using their name and their daughter's. The facebook page Free Meredith Kercher uses photos of Meredith and is there for the sole purpose of pushing the defense agenda. It is a disgraceful site which includes the horrific H.O.T video. Angel pictures will not disguise its pathetic purpose.
@leanne Once again. Please show us or anybody where they said the Kercher's were deluded? They have been lied too. Get over yourself. FMK is a lovely page - but that is probably why you do not like it. And it doesn't push proven lie as fact like TJMK. Now Meredith and the Kercher's deserve better than a lie. Wouldn't ya think?
@leanne You must be very blind Leanne if you think there is any evidence against Knox and Sollecito. The Kercher's have had lies forced upon them for 4 years. It is heart breaking. The truth is clear. I am sure it isn't easy for them to hear that they have been lied too.
Â
And again - TJMK uses Meredith's photos and pushes proven LIE to be fact. Now that is what you call disgusting.
@Olive Yew You must be very young Olive. Do you think the Kerchers would condone that page which uses personal family photos ? Do you care that they most likely find it offensive and hurtful?.Â
@CT Amen CT. To say I or anybody has said they personally care more than the Kercher's is another example of how low these "people: go to twist everything for their own agenda. We sure as hell care more than the likes of Patriza Stefanoni and Mignini though. I never would have told the lies Patriza did on stand when it came to the evidence. The truth is clear.
During the proceedings the cops and the prosecution lied that Amanda's clothes were missing, implying she got rid them. The Court reviewing the case based their decision on this lie.
Later it was revealed that the striped sweatshirt the cops claimed was missing was lying all this time in plain sight on Amanda's bed. It is visible in police photos and videos.
Â
They had to lie like this because they had no real case and no real evidence. The Appeal Court had no option but acquittal when all the actual evidence were showing that Guede broke in and murdered Meredith alone.
Despite bringing a freak show of witnesses - drug dealers, demented homeless heroin addicts, and despite burning 3 hard disks and destroying data on the fourth one the prosecution failed to disprove Raffaele's and Amanda's alibi.
Â
The Court  ruled that their alibi of spending the night together, while not completely proven, still stands.
@harryrag @Katody Matrass Sollecito stated in his book that he had significant concerns over the people Knox hung with - drug dealers and other assorted weirdos. So when different weirdo's see Knox being bad and testify in court, thats not right; but when Knox is out playing with weirdo's, thats Amanda being Amanda and she's normal for Seattle? Right? Wow...
@Megan Price That is really interesting, because I have finished the book, and there is no such statement made. Have you read the book? Maybe I missed that part. Do feel free to leave the quote :)
Great, can you point to me where in his appeal brief does Dr Galati uses this to argue Hellmann was wrong saying that the prosecution failed to disprove the alibi?
Â
No you can't because it's not there. Looks like Dr Galati was in serious need of your help when writing his lousy paper. Where were you?
"In regards to this "confession" that I made last night, I want to make clear that I'm very doubtful of the verity of my statements because they were made under the pressures of stress, shock and extreme exhaustion. Not only was I told I would be arrested and put in jail for 30 years, but I was also hit in the head when I didn't remember a fact correctly."
Â
The police failed to produce the recording of that interrogation. Mignini told multiple different lies trying to explain why there is no recording.
Â
It's clear that the prosecution and the cops lie and Amanda told the truth about what happened to her at the Questura.
@Katody Matrass So Knox doubts her statements but doesn't deny them completely? This statement should read "Every thing I said last night was complete nonsense and I retract it completely. I don't know who killed Meredith and I have no idea why I accused Patrick. I was very tired and scared when I made those statements. I do know that I was at home with Raffaele on the night of the murder. Now get me a lawyer. "
You see the difference between someone being clear and the rubbish excuse for a retraction written by Knox? Then there is the small matter that to this day, Sollecito does not back up Amanda's alibi. There isn't a police recording but there is this ridiculous statement by Knox which is incredibly vague and confusing. If this is the utter bobbins that the police were fed for 75 million hours (or however long they waterboarded her ) then you can begin to understand the urge to give Amanda a slap round the back of the head, tell her to stop wasting police time and start being truthful and clear. I mean, a girl had been murdered and this is how Amanda and Raffaele "help" the police?
@Megan Price Sollecito does back up Amanda Knox 100 % and this just proves to me that your statement above is complete twaddle. You have not read Sollecito's book.
He told conflicting stories about why they didn't record the abusive interrogation as I already demonstrated in a post that you couldn't answer in any way.
At least one of them must be a lie.
Â
In fact all of them must be lies because it is completely implausible that they didn't record the most important interrogation when they recorded everything else.
Â
They threatened, coerced and abused Amanda and Raffaele verbally and physically.
It's very telling and ominous they can't cough up the recordings.
@harryrag for someone who know so much about the case you don't know about the police video that showed the Harry Potter book in Raffaele's apartment? You would make me laugh it wasn't damaging an innocent family who lost their beautiful daughter and sister. You are saying above that Raffaele said Amanda was not at his apartment and this is just another example of how you twist things to suit your hate filled agenda. Stop.
Jeffski, I personally believe insinuating that Harry Rag is Peter Quennell is insulting to Harry Rag. I'm sorry but Quennell is in a league of his own when it comes to being creepy. Harry Rag is just an anonymous keyboard on the internet. Anyone can do what Harry does. It's the internet. Harry is nothing to give attention to. He doesn't even exist.
Glad to see that Mr. Gumbel was also interviewed! What a sad miscarriage of justice. I'm praying for the Kercher family to see the truth and find the peace to go on. There are people who are falsely trying to spread the word that Raffaele still stands accused but that is not so. Read the Hellman Report to see exactly why Raffaele and Amanda have been released.
The Injustice Anywhere website also has Italian members working on a translation of the Galati Appeal and it's not pretty - actually rather ridiculous.
@JanetS Nobody has ever provided a plausible innocent explanation for Knox's and Sollecito's numerous lies.Â
Â
The defence experts and Conti and Vecchiotti were unable to prove that there had been any contamination. Unless contamination has been proved, it doesn't exist.
Â
How did an abundant amount of Raffaele Sollecito's DNA end up on the exact part of Meredith's bra that was bent out of shape during the attack on her?
Â
How did Meredith's DNA end up on the blade of the kitchen knife from Sollecito's apartment.
Â
How did Amanda Knox's blood and Meredith's blood end up getting mixed together?
@harryrag  @JanetS Harry, there was not an abundant amount of Raffaele's DNA on the clasp. The knife had nothing on the blade except starch, and Amanda's blood was not mixed with Meredith's blood anywhere in the cottage. Everything you posted was a lie. Why do you keep posting lies?
@Megan Price  @Olive  @harryrag Use logic Megan. How many samples with Guede were found in Meredith's bedroom versus ONE bra clasp with Sollecito's DNA that was kicked around a room for 46 days. And how many other DNA profiles were on that bra clasp Megan? Do you know?
@Olive Yew @harryrag Bu tthis is the magic DNA that was collected and convicted Guede. So the police collected perfectly for Guede's samples but totally screwed up the collection of Knox and Sollecito's samples? Is that what you are saying?
Your theory is that she bled around the crime scene and then not only failed to clean it up despite performing a miraculous clean up in the murder room but also pointed out her own blood to the policemen when they arrived. This is ridiculous and make zero sense.
Â
No wonder the prosecution were unable to present any coherent theory.
@Olive Yew  @Katody Matrass  @Bruce Fischer  @JanetS "Legal experts who follow this case have suggested that blood evidence cannot be dated and therefore could have been left weeks before the murder. But when Knox testified in her own defense in June, she conceded that there was no blood in the bathroom the day before the murder, effectively dating those blood stains to that night." (Barbie Nadeau, Newseek, 14 July 2009.)
Â
Luciano Garofano also notes that Knoxâs blood was recent because it hadnât been touched or cleaned and that it is logical to put this bloodstain in relation with the blood in the bidet and and basin.
Garofano was not an expert in the trial. Toricelli was Maresca's expert which is the same as the prosecution's. Try harder, Harry, because you're fooling only yourself.
Â
Lumumba was released because he had an alibi, not because of "Dr" Stefanoni.
Â
The kitchen knife was too long for the large wound. It would require it to be inserted only halfway which is completely implausible. That's common sense and that's what the Court ruled.
Â
Well, Harry, why doesn't Galati argue that "Amanda was bleeding" then?
I told you you can't explain that and it seems I was right. Think hard about it.
What is the reason he dropped such a splendid argument? Will you answer?
@Katody Matrass  @Bruce Fischer  @JanetS You really are thick and ignorant. Francesca Torricelli and Luciano Garofano were not hired by the prosecution. One of the main reasons why Diya Lumumba was released from prison was thanks to the work of Dr. Stefanoni and her team. This proves that she didn't just blindly agree with the prosecution and police that Lumumba was involved in Meredith's murder.Â
Â
The double DNA knife was compatible with the large wound on Meredith's neck. Even Professor Torre conceded this at the first trial.
Â
It is clear that Amanda Knox was bleeding on the night of the murder because her blood was on the tap of the basin in the bathroom.
Â
ââ¦a sample was taken from the front part of the faucet of the sink, which yielded the genetic profile of Amanda Knoxâ¦â (The Massei report, page192.)
"Dr" Stefanoni is not a doctor and was shown in court to be incompetent and a liar.
Â
The "independent experts" you listed are not independent - they are paid by the prosecution.
Â
The court appointed experts found no DNA, no blood or any other human cells on the knife. They proved the work of Stefanoni to be unreliable and untrustworthy.
The court found that the kitchen knife was not the weapon. Apart from lack of any traces on it it was much too large to fit any of the wounds or the bloody imprint left by the killer.
Â
Amanda's DNA was in the cottage because she lived there. As the court found, the mixing was done by the improper collection methods of the police.
Â
No argument that  "Amanda has been bleeding" was presented in court. Neither Galati mentions it. Why is it, Harry? Can you explain it? I know you can't.
@harryrag Next you are going to tell me that Raffaele called the carabinieri after the postal police arrived. :) Patriza Stefanoni belongs in jail. Her forensics are worth nothing more than toilet paper. Give it up Harry. The truth is clear. You are obsessed with a lie.
@Bruce Fischer  @JanetS Dr. Stefanoni said there was an abundant amount of Sollecito's DNA -  four nanograms - on Meredith's bra clasp. It wasn't LCN DNA and it was identified by two separate DNA tests. Of the 17 loci tested in the sample, Sollecitoâs profile matched 17 out of 17. Professor Novelli pointed out there's more likelihood of meteorite striking the courtroom in Perguia than there is of the bra clasp being contaminated by dust.
Â
A number of independent forensic experts - Dr. Patrizia Stefanoni, Dr. Renato Biondo, Professor Francesca Torricelli, former Caribinieri General Luciano Garofano and Professor Novelli - have all confirmed that Meredithâs DNA was found on the blade. Even Greg Hampikian concedes that Meredithâs DNA was definitely on the blade.
Â
Professor Novelli categorically excluded any possibility that contamination could have occurred in the laboratory. He said that 100 samples had been examined in the same laboratory room during the six days prior to the examination of the knife and after. He personally checked the results of all these tests and he did not find any contamination from Meredithâs DNA.Â
Â
The biggest bombshell in Galati's appeal is the details concerning the sample of human DNA that Conti and Vecchiotti extracted from the blade of the knife. Professor Novelli testified that itâs possible to analyse LCN DNA traces with totally reliable results. There is enough DNA for more than one test. Using cutting-edge technology, forensic scientists can extract, amplify and attribute DNA with 10-15 picograms of DNA. Conti and Vecchiotti extracted approximately 100 picograms.
Â
Comodi said that the gloves used by the forensic police contain starch and this explains why starch was found on the knife.
Â
According to the prosecution's experts, there were five instances of Knox's DNA or blood with Meredith's blood in three different locations in the cottage. Even Amanda Knox's lawyers conceded that her blood had mingled with Meredith's blood. Luciano Garofano also claims that Amanda Knox's and Meredith's blood had mixed:
Â
"However, here is the electropherogram and you can see that the RFU value is very high, so the sample is undoubtedly blood, which is the body fluid that provides the greatest amount of DNA. In some cases you see higher peaks of Amandaâs DNA than Meredithâs. Amanda has been bleeding." (Luciano Garafano, Darkness Descending, page 371.)
Raffaele is a respectful man . The bs he gets on Facebook and how he handles the bs with dignity amazes me . I think we could all have a bit of raffaele in us we be better off

@Katody Matrass Are the two statements mutually exclusive?
 @harryrag
Â
I posted it already. You had no good answer to this post. Understandable and ominous for the prosecution and the police thugs.

Well, Harry, why doesn't Galati argue that "Amanda was bleeding" then?
I told you you can't explain that and it seems I was right. Think hard about it.
What is the reason he dropped such a splendid argument? Will you answer?
Â
Thanks in advance :)

@harryrag  @Katody Matrass  @Bruce Fischer  @JanetS Dried blood Harry dear. It was old blood. Please try harder.
 @harryrag  @Bruce Fischer  @JanetS
Â
Thanks in advance :)

Â
