Though Starbucks frequently add temporary new menu offerings with the changing seasons, it's rare that the Seattle-based coffee giant introduces a new drink that's here to stay.
But, the company announced this morning, they've done just that, rounding out their Macchiato family to a trio.
In addition to the classic Caramel Macchiato and last year's induction, the Hazelnut Macchiato, Starbucks announced today that they'd be adding a new "core drink," the Vanilla Macchiato.
The drink, which references the Italian word for “marked,” "features steamed velvety-smooth milk “marked” with Starbucks signature, perfectly balanced espresso. The Vanilla Macchiato is finished with a drizzle of sweet, brown sugar, Madagascar Bourbon vanilla," according to the press release.
"Our baristas love to make the Starbucks Macchiato for customers," said Starbucks group president Cliff Burrows in a statement.
The announcement also included the addition of four new breakfast sandwiches, inspired by the company's 2013 acquisition of La Boulange. The new sandwiches include a ham and Swiss, a vegetarian vegetable and cheese, and a whole-grain egg and cheddar.
The Vanilla Macchiato will be available beginning March 4, and to mark the debut of the new sandwiches, customers can receive a free Grande brewed coffee with the purchase of any breakfast sandwich at participating stores on March 12- 14.
