AllRecipes.com is known worldwide for helping home cooks discover and share recipes for creative casseroles, bacon-wrapped... anything, holiday treats and much more, but did you know the online encyclopedia for virtually every food craving was born and raised right here in Seattle? The company’s headquarters overlooks Westlake Park, and we got a peek inside to find out how all those drool-worthy recipes make it to your weekly menu.
From the moment you set foot inside AllRecipes, it’s clear that this is not your average office space. The elevators open up to a home chef’s dream kitchen complete with dual ovens, an island and plenty of space to throw a fabulous dinner party. This must be where all the magic happens, right? Actually, the real work is happening in kitchens all around the world.
Many of AllRecipes’ trusted recipes are created, tested, rated and enjoyed by home cooks just like you! (Think of it as a virtual recipe box with more than a million entries!) Community members share their tried and true recipes, photos and reviews. The website also encourages users to explain how they the altered the recipes to fit their own families’ needs. This unique peer-to-peer setup fuels AllRecipes’ ultimate goal: to help home cooks meet their daily menu goals no matter how big or small.
While home cooks are key to the AllRecipes engine, the company also has a stealthy team of recipe pros and food stylists who make those in-house “how-to” videos and food pictures look oh so tempting! The secret lies in Capitol Hill. AllRecipes rented an apartment on the hill and transformed it into a studio for their food projects. Who knew? “We wanted to keep that home kitchen feeling,” said Lorraine Goldberg, AllRecipes Social Media Manager.
Of course, we couldn’t leave AllRecipes without trying out some of their favorite bites. Antipasto on a Stick
Original recipe makes 8 servings
8 slices salami, rolled
8 (1/2 inch) cubes mozzarella cheese
8 pitted black olives
4 grape tomatoes, halved
4 marinated artichoke hearts, drained and halved
8 leaves fresh basil, rolled
8 bamboo toothpicks
8 teaspoons olive oil
Thread the salami roll, mozzarella cheese, olive, tomato, artichoke heart, and basil roll onto a toothpick. Arrange toothpicks on a serving platter and drizzle olive oil over each.
