As eaters and drinkers, we’re fortunate that Seattle has an embarrassment of riches when it comes to food and beverages. There is the bounty of the ocean, nearby farms, skilled chefs, ambitious restaurateurs, and a savvy dining public.

What happens when we take all of those things and channel them towards community building? Or when an organization has a mission to transform lives and the community can support this mission? Enter FareStart.

FareStart is an organization that was founded in 1992 and provides opportunities for the homeless and disadvantaged to transform their lives through their programs. From their meal programs to support services, Seattle is richer for having FareStart in its community.

As diners, we can support FareStart through a number of ways. There is their Café in the Rainier Valley. Or visit for their weekday lunches at their Seventh & Virginia restaurant. Even better, go for their weekly Guest Chef Night. Each Thursday evening, a chef from an area restaurant will create a menu, lead the kitchen, and provide their expertise to the FareStart team. As willing diners, we benefit. All for under thirty bucks for this prix fixe menu.

The list of chefs that have been involved with the Guest Chef Night is a who’s who of local chefs. From John Howie to Ethan Stowell, Matt Dillon to Jerry Traunfeld, hundreds of local chefs have been a part of Guest Chef Night. Check out their calendar to see the chefs scheduled to be at FareStart in the coming weeks. It’s a great chance to support a great cause, all while having dinner.

FareStart also has an event coming up on Thursday June 5th that should be on the calendar for any food and drinks aficionado in Seattle. It’s their Guest Chef Spectacular at Showbox SoDo, and this tasting event is FareStart’s celebration of chefs, restaurants, and partners that support FareStart’s programs throughout the year. For this Guest Chef Spectacular, the roster of more than 30 chefs will include:

On the beverage front, there are more than 30 purveyors like:

Tickets for FareStart’s Guest Chef Spectacular are on sale now. There is early bird pricing, so get in now before prices go up or partake in the VIP experience with early entry to the event and other exclusive perks. Additionally, there will be live music and raffles throughout the evening. With all the proceeds from the Guest Chef Spectacular going to FareStart’s training program, this event will fill your belly and yourself with good karma.

Supporting FareStart is as easy as going out to lunch, dinner, or a tasting event this summer.
