Slate put together a hilarious and informative map of every state's "official meat" - The United Steaks of America, if you will. Washington's meat of choice is salami.

Their reasoning for this choice was that Seattle is home to Salumi, the infamous cured meats shop in Pioneer Square owned by Mario Batali's dad.

Other states and meats of interest:

  • California's was tofu. This is both right and wrong on so many levels.
  • Florida's meat is alligator.
  • Mississippi got pork rinds, which I didn't even think counted but that shows us just how much they must eat them.
  • West Virginians love squirrel.
