Seven Ways to Get That Mediterranean Feeling in Seattle

In April 2009 I married the love of my life. In lieu of a wedding, we decided to make our nuptials official at the Seattle Municipal Court and then jet off to Italy for a two week honeymoon. It was the best idea ever.

The first stop on our journey was a place I’d been dreaming of visiting for years - the Amalfi Coast. This southern Italian resort paradise was the perfect place to start a brand new life story with the man I love. When I think about that trip, I can still see the lemon groves of Capri, the sparkling blues of the Mediterranean Sea on the rocky Positano beach, and the colorful mosaic artwork of this beautiful coastal region.

When it’s summer in Seattle and I start to crave the refreshing color palette of lemon yellow, aqua blue, and tranquil white, I often wish that I could escape to the Mediterranean. Instead, I do the next best thing and find ways to recreate that feeling right here at home. Here are some ideas if you’d like to join in!

  • Stop in for a cappuccino at Caffè Senso Unico. Sit down and take your time. If you’re hungry, try the spinach panini.
  • The Amalfi Coast region is full of ceramic and mosaic art. Learn how to create your own pieces at Seattle Mosaic Arts.
  • It’s not the Mediterranean, but taking a table by the window at Phoenecia in West Seattle and enjoying the beautiful view of Puget Sound and a delicious dinner is quite the summertime treat.

Have a great summer!
