Totara Children's Boutique

Totara Children's Boutique

Over the last couple of months my calendar has been filled with baby showers. I feel like I have looked at every onesie and receiving blanket from Seattle to Spokane in the hunt for gifts for all these new additions.

Luckily for my gift recipients, a new store, Totara Children’s Boutique, has opened on 34th Avenue in Madrona and it is chocked full of unique, eco-friendly items for little ones.

Totara is owned by Daya Marron, a former Los Angeles talent manager who also spent time as an eco-friendly store manager in Manhattan. While hailing from the U.S., Marron also has strong ties to New Zealand. Her father lived there for over 20 years and Marron spent large amounts of time visiting over the last couple of decades. Her travels left her in love with the region and she decided to open a store in the States that paid homage to the area.

The namesake of her shop is the Totara tree, indigenous to New Zealand that is known for being strong and hearty. It is also the type of tree that her family planted on their New Zealand land as a memorial when her father passed away.

Totara Children’s Boutique is filled with children’s items primarily from New Zealand and Australia (a little bit of Los Angeles makes up the difference.) The clothing selection is composed entirely of organic cotton, merino wool, and bamboo - great weight fabric for Seattle weather. Besides clothes, the crisp, light-filled interior of the store is filled with amazing hand knit booties, rattles, and bean bag chairs filled with recyclable, eco-friendly filling. The items are all handmade and all prints use non-toxic inks.

Totara’s Children Boutique is located at 1130 34th Avenue in Madrona. The hours are Wednesday – Saturday from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. and Sunday 12 p.m. – 5 p.m..
