Skip the traffic, take the train! Traveling via train not only cuts down your stress levels, it's also a great way to see the country. I have many fond memories traveling to both Vancouver, BC and Portland, Oregon from Seattle on an Amtrak train. On one particular morning trip to Vancouver, BC with friends, we brought along cranmosas and breakfast pastries for the trip while we enjoyed the gorgeous views our region has to offer.

On May 10th, Amtrak invites the public to Seattle's historic King Street Station for their free National Train Day celebration.

Tour the Amtrak Coast Starlight Train and enjoy food demos and samples by the one and only Tom Douglas. He'll be serving up tomato soup with gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches and chocolate pecan silk pie - yum!

There will be a "Chuggington Kids Depot" set up for the youngest aspiring conductors as well as a model train display. The Kids Depot will provide kids with an arts and crafts station as well as a photo pop-up display for a fun photo opportunity.

You'll also be able to tour one of Amtrak's trains, to get a peek inside if you haven't been for a ride in a while. King Street Station just finished a recent renovation, so this event (10am - 3pm on May 10th) is going to shine!

Considering a train ride in your future? In Seattle, Amtrak offers three routes: Amtrak Cascades (Vancouver, BC to Eugene, OR), Coast Starlight (Seattle to Portland and Los Angeles) and Empire Builder (Seattle to Chicago).

It's also a green way to travel: in terms of energy used per passenger, Amtrak trains are 16% more efficient than planes and 34% more efficient than cars. Whether you're looking for a romantic getaway or just a way to see the country without having to drive, Amtrak is a great way to travel.
