Less than 20 minutes outside Seattle, Woodmark Hotel beckons staycationers with beautiful scenery, walks along the lake, kayaks, beach cruisers and delicious food.

On the east side of Lake Washington, Woodmark offers gorgeous views of the water and the Olympic Mountains. It's hard to believe you're just a few miles away from the city. You'll want to make sure to leave some time in your schedule to walk the waterfront to nearby parks and docks. Enjoying the outdoors right outside your own door is part of this particular hotel's appeal.

Looking for a little adventure? Woodmark is the first hotel I've been to that offers free kayak rentals! Available from dawn to dusk in June through September, explore the lake in single or double kayaks at no cost. Soak up the sun and get a little exercise all at the same time. Bike cruisers are available for rent at no cost to those who wish to travel to nearby parks, shops and restaurants during the summer months as well. Rather be chauffeured around? No problem - their year-round drop-off and pick-up service will take you anywhere you desire (within a five mile radius).

A very unique feature of this hotel charmed my night owl side, inner child and sweet tooth all at the same time: Raid the Pantry. Available every night from 10:30pm - 1am, a small room in the lobby is unlocked and complimentary cookies, candy, chips, other snacks and beverages await. Heading down to the lobby late at night and checking out all the options will make you feel like a kid sneaking into the cookie jar!

The folks at Woodmark know how to start you off with the vacation feeling right away: at check-in you'll be offered a glass of bubbly to bring with you to your room. Swing by the Beach Cafe for some tasty bites, we particularly loved their crab and shrimp cakes with tamarind aioli, avocado puree and cilantro salad.

For wine lovers, be sure to visit Woodmark's restaurant, bin on the lake, during your stay. The restaurant offers over 40 wines by the glass but also give wine-lovers the chance to build their own tasting - you can order these wines in one, three and six ounce pours. Instead of one glass with dinner, why not order a variety of small pours? We had fun discovering different wines with this fun menu style. I wish more restaurants in Seattle would take inspiration from bin on the lake!

Crowd-sourced Kirkland fun: I asked a few of my friends who lived in Kirkland where their favorite spots in town were. The top recommendation was for The Wilde Rover (free entertainment during the week, deck in the back). Other places they suggest: Savrika Tea, Milagro Cantina, Aura Bakery, Green E Juice, The Lodge Sports Grille, Trellis Restaurant and Woodmark's own Beach Cafe.
