Photos: Washington State's Big Four Ice Caves

Big Four Ice Caves

An hour and a half drive from Seattle, the Big Four Ice Caves are located in the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. These amazing caves have been visited for over a century, formed from cascading water, and warm winds hollowing out heaps of avalanche-deposited snow and usually appearing by midsummer. The caves are a 2.2 mile round trip from the trail head, but the Washington Trails Association warns to never actually enter the caves as they are very unstable. (Joshua Lewis / Seattle Refined)
