Carroll asks lawmakers to fund youth outreach program

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) - Seahawks coach Pete Carroll visited the Capitol and met with lawmakers, asking them for state funding to help expand a youth outreach program he heads.
He visited both the House and Senate chambers on Wednesday, and also briefly met with Gov. Jay Inslee.
Carroll started "A Better Seattle," in September 2011 in partnership with the YMCA of Greater Seattle and the Seattle Youth Violence Prevention Initiative. The program hires street outreach workers in Seattle and south King County in an effort to reduce gang and youth violence. It's modeled on a program Carroll started in Los Angeles while coaching at the University of Southern California.
Carroll said he'd like to expand the program across the state. While at the Capitol, the Senate passed a resolution honoring the Seahawks. When later asked how much he was seeking, Carroll wouldn't say, other than "we'll take as much as we can get."

@ABetterSeattle @abetterseattle @petecarroll @Seahawks gotta love Pete, never met him but I'm sure he's a fantastic guy from what I've seen
@ABetterSeattle @PeteCarroll the Seahawks will run the table onto a Superbowl victory!
Ask your players moron!
Komo, If you really want to help Pete, give us an article with the meat and potatoes of his organization. What has he done, how many kids are being affected, how much private $$$ have been raised, where can people donate privately. I would hope Olympia would be creative and find $$ wasted on nudie art and such, and maybe redirect that money to a more worthy cause, instead of digging into our pockets again...
Isn't the point of having a popular high profile guy like Carroll on the team to raise PRIVATE funds? Anyone can go to the state and request taxpayers money. A guy like Carroll should be able to stimulate private (dare I say wealthy or well off) individuals to contribute.
@Scott Collier Excellent point. I believe this is a worthy cause, not so sure that the state should fund it. This actually should be a community effort.
Yeah, good luck with that Pete. I have a better idea. Try squeezing those dollars out of a lemon.Â
Or, better yet, try funding it yourself. You make enough.
So WA is broke, they want to raise gas taxes, toll roads, raise property taxes and they need to almost double education funding, and this guy thinks we have money for his pet project?
Just another day in Olympia...
He's a gun grabber! The NRA does not approve!Â
@lakeview Irrelevant, and who cares what the NRA thinks.
