SEATTLE (AP) - Washington running backs Brandon Johnson and David Freeman have been ruled academically ineligible for the upcoming season.

The announcement from the school came Tuesday.

Johnson, a junior from Hawthorne, Calif., rushed for 194 yards in nine games last season, making him the team's third-leading rusher. Freeman, a sophomore from Inglewood, Calif., ran for 152 yards in four games with the winless Huskies.

Neither player was expected to start for the Huskies this season. After spring practice, Washington listed three freshman - Chris Polk, Willie Griffin and Demetrius Bronson - on its depth chart at tailback.
