Mariners hire Dave Hansen as new hitting coach

SEATTLE (AP) - The Seattle Mariners have hired former major leaguer Dave Hansen to be their new hitting coach, replacing Chris Chambliss, who was fired after the season.
The Mariners made the announcement on Monday. Hansen spent half of the 2011 and all of the 2012 season in the same position with the Los Angeles Dodgers before being fired at the end of the season.
Prior to joining the Dodgers, Hansen spent four seasons as a hitting instructor in the Arizona Diamondbacks system. Hansen interviewed for the job in Seattle when Chambliss was hired.
Hansen's charge will be improving a Mariners offense that was the worst in baseball. They finished last in the league in batting average (.234), on-base percentage (.296), slugging percentage (.369) and on-base plus slugging (.665).

The Mariners, like the Braves, do not have an owner that cares about whether they win or lose. If we had local or at least regional ownership. We'd have the owners at the games, seeing the team they've put together. Has anyone ANYONE from Nintendo EVER attended any games? Down in Georgia, I lived and died with the Braves, watching horrible teams. I wasn't in the metro area, so going to games was not an option. But I watched them on t.v all the time. This region, like so many, has fair weather fans. But we also have a diehard fan base for all our teams. Just a few moves could make the Mariners a contender!
Ouch...looks like all comments say basically the same thing...would love to see 6,000 fans per game DUE to the FRONT OFFICE playing fans for suckers!!!
Â
WAKE UP FRONT OFFICE!
UGH...will the M's ever be decent again?? Since 2002 it's been all downhill (Besides Felix)...Looking at what this lame franchise has traded/given away; to name a few: Fister(for wells?), Morse, Ad. Jones, S. Choo, Soriano, Lowe, Cabrea( Indians SS), Putz, D.Ortiz, could go on...ALL HAVE BEEN ALL STARS!
Â
I am almost totally done following the team...bad PR moves (not in support of new Arena for Sonics),Signing/ Re-signing useless players for millions (Ichiro, Figgins, Olivo, Guti), & now reducing payroll more than 20M last year (in addition to NEVER getting top notch FA).
Â
Just waiting for the team to trade Felix (who is one of the 3 best in ML's). It's really not about winning or competing with this ownership group...and feel bad for the players/Wedge who are not put in a position to win or even be .500Â
This guy must have really been desperate to take the hitting coach assignment in Seattle. NO OFFENSE and NO STARS...a dwindling fan base....and a team with no hope.....Ive seen this before= Fire the coaching staff....and no one ever looks to the top. Those guys (Lincoln and Armstrong) need to go. So do the owners.... They are only concerned about making $. This team could care less about winning....SadÂ
@amd_44 ...sad it's so obvious to 95% of ex-former fans...
LOL.. the worst front office in the history of MLB. Â
So we hire someone who just got fired for doing a crappy job on another team.....Does not make any sense to me. Maybe this is why I don't attend games anymore, along with all the rising prices and those damn garlic fries. Get a clue Mariners and hire some people with some nards who will call it like it is rather than playing the political game.
So they hire someone who just got fired from a baseball organization that was doing a crappy job with them. Why don't we just get someone with talent to whip these guys into a winnig team. Oh, that isright we are rebuilding again, and again, and again. Mariners, get off the freaking pot and do things right finally.....get rid of Figgins, Smoak and anyone else who doesn't think that a coach can help. This is why I don't attend games anymore. This team and the organization is so screwed up...get some people that really want to win a championship........GEEZE
Maybe this is why they are raising ticket prices.
Here I thought they were putting the money towards better rally fries OR talent for the dancing grounds crew OR new hydro's for the hydroplane races.
Alas I was wrong.
@Hopp ...HA!
