New league called National Women's Soccer League
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - The new women's soccer league with franchises in Portland, Seattle and six other cities will be called the National Women's Soccer League.
The league made the announcement Saturday.
The NWSL also unveiled its new logo. It is red, white and blue and includes the silhouette of a female soccer player about to strike the ball.
The new league starts play in 2013. The Portland team will be called the Thorns. The Seattle club has yet to announce its name.

Maybe the little ladies can pep up the game by altering the off-sides rule a bit. Can you imagine if such a rule existed in basketball? Oh... and some sort of play clock for teams that are in the lead? Of course, there will still be little interest in the game except for perhaps a certain sub section of sports fans. Bankruptcy within 2 years.
Â
Predicted score; 1-nil!
@Getov Mylon Hey sexist pig, learn the game before criticizing it. Basketball? You use basketball as an example of a sport. Nice try.Â
@shanmatt72 Sexist would be having a special league set aside for a certain gender. Feel free to try out for the Sounders FC.
But.. go ahead... invest your money. The public is just DYING for a female soccer league.
Â
Now... a sammich would be nice.Â
Â
Â
@Getov Mylon As probably was your response when the Sounders joined the MLS, no one will go. Well knuckledragger, check the attendance. Further, you might look at the Sounders Womens team, they draw very nicely too.Â
Â
Sexist is calling them little ladies. Simple fact, they would crush you.Â
Â
Intelligence, you might ask for it for xmas.Â
@Getov Mylon Just because they score 100 points a game doesn't mean it's any better than a sport where they score one or two. I mean the quality and entertainment do not depend on the number of goals scored comparing two sports that have absolutely nothing in common
@Larry*X*K Well,  true, but if I had a dollar for every one-nil game I could start my own women's lingerie team. The Seattle Mist, now THERE'S a fine example of the fairer sex.
Some good news after all the insanity of the last week. Looking forward to seeing some games!
