University of Washington football coach Steve Sarkisian reportedly was interviewed over the weekend by USC athletic director Pat Haden about the Trojans’ head coaching job.

ESPN reported the interview.

ESPN also reported:

Sarkisian, speaking to KJR Radio in Seattle on Monday, confirmed he talked to Haden over the weekend but said he wouldn’t call it an interview. He said USC isn’t that far along in the process with him yet.

Other candidates for the USC job are reportedly Vanderbilt’s James Franklin and Boise State’s Christ Petersen.

Sarkisian has been mentioned as a possible coach for USC, where he was an assistant when Pete Carroll, now the Seahawks coach, was the Trojans’ head coach.

He addressed the speculation back in September, after Haden fired coach Lane Kiffin:

“I have great respect for USC and the rich history and tradition they have,” Sarkisian said. “But I’m proud to be the head coach of the 15th-ranked team in America right now and all the hard work we’ve put into this program the last five years to get to this point to be in an awesome matchup on national television this Saturday night against a national championship contender in Stanford.”
