Chris Clemons out for season with torn ACL

RENTON, Wash. (AP) - The Seattle Seahawks solving 29 years of road futility in the playoffs came with a downside.
Seattle coach Pete Carroll said Monday that defensive end Chris Clemons suffered a torn ACL and torn meniscus in his left knee and will be lost for the rest of the playoffs. Clemons was injured in the third quarter of Sunday's 24-14 win over Washington, the Seahawks' first postseason road win since Dec. 31, 1983.
Clemons was hurt when it appeared his cleat got stuck in the turf at FedEx Field. An MRI on Monday confirmed the injury. He will need surgery.
Players were not available at the Seahawks facility, but Clemons tweeted that he appreciated support from the fans.

There seemed to be a fair amount of snide comments about RG3âs injury, the Redskins coach and sideline doctor. But when a Hawks player is injured it is all about the field conditions. How about questioning the equipment manager and the cleat type that was being used? As one commenter from yesterday said, this is the NFL not the PGA. Perhaps Clemons had a preexisting injury that was exasperated by continuing to play.
There were roughly 30 other players that played on the same field and left without injury, and Iâve seen plenty of games that are played on various types of turf that had ACL injuries occur during the game.
This should be a no excuses league, the Hawks won because they were the better team last Sunday and even without Clemons I believe that the Hawks will win again this Sunday because once again they will field the better team. Players get hurt that is a fact of life in the NFL, and nobody is forced to play, the do so because they are paid extremely well. When they do get injured they receive better medical attention than the vast majority of us could ever hope or pay for. Anyone who doesnât want to play can walk away at any time, because there are plenty of athletes that would gladly step up and take the available position.
I wish Chris Clemons a full recovery. This young man has come along way. Renegotiated a contract and lived up to it. One of the older players on this team who's leadership will be missed on the field. I hope Seattle does not half to play on the D.C. field for a long time, or at least until its REPLACED!!! If this field cost any player'(s) their career they should be compensated by those responsible.
That field was an absolute disgrace. The only reason it looked even green was because they PAINTED it.....While we are gonna miss Clemons, the Redskins potentially lost their franchise QB because of this..Snyder being one of the richest owners in the league...Why would you leave the filed this way?Â
Thought I would post the first comment out of 17 that actually pertains to the loss the Seahawks suffered. Clemons is a madman and his loss is HUGE!!! I hope he will be helping his backups this week with tips. I trust Pete and his staff to make adjustments as deemed necessary. Can't wait for the game! I love the fact we are underdogs. Makes the kids hungry. Go 'Hawks!!!!!
the NFL needs to institute rules regarding field quality, if the field is not up to standards then the team who call the field home (suspended for the Super Bowl as that is a site selected a year prior to try and maintain neutrality) forfeit the game, and in case of the playoffs, end their run
@Tom Allmendinger The conspiracy theory says that the Redskins had that field in poor conditions on purpose to throw off the Seahawks game.  Too bad it injured their star QB!
2 players with knee injuries from that turf. It's time to upgrade! Random fact: there are heating coils under the turf in Green Bay to keep the grass healthy.
@kockatoo Actually it's to keep the turf from freezing. Since when does grass need to be warm to be healthy?
The Seahawks should sue FedEx field for their crappy turf.

It will be a battle, but the Seahawks should beat the Falcons this Sunday. Would be great to have our great defensive pass rusher Chris Clemons, but Bruce Irvin will step it up. Falcons had easier schedule than the Seahawks during season. Seahawks 31 Falcons 23.
@STK Oh, I hope, I hope, I hope! What time do we have to get up to watch? Is it 9 or 10 AM? At any rate, looks like Bloody Marys on Sunday morning.
@Scoondog @STK....wow...big fan you are! when was the last time you watched an NFL game at 9am?
 @Scoondog  @STK I heard it was Sunday 10am PST!!
@DMT  @STK Thanks DMT- I figured it would be like a normal East Coast game time, but I thought I heard somewhere it was an hour earlier (perhaps to extend the football watching day). I was probably just trippin.
I am hoping for the best and fastest recovery times for BOTH guys that got hurt! Because I do not have cable, I saw pictures of the rotten field later on and I couldn't believe it! THAT BAD??? Inexcusable!
The NFL should fine the owners for providing such terrible stadium turf. It's a disgrace to the NFL considering the amount of money pumped into the sport.
@Just_Mike It even cost the skins their own quarterback. And the Redskins are worth over $1.5 billion! No excuse.
That hurts. Time for Bruce to step it big time. We need to get pressure against the Falcons or it's gonna be a long day.
@Hachee_Bungwhy Bruce is fine in the pass game.  It's his rush game that is lacking.  Lucky for us ATL has a weak run game. Â
oh no.
