WALNUT CREEK, Calif. (AP) - The Pac-12 Conference has suspended Washington State safety Deone Bucannon for a half game for a hit to the head of an Eastern Washington player this past Saturday.

Bucannon, a junior, will miss the first half of the Cougars' game at UNLV on Friday night.

Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott announced the suspension on Tuesday. He said that the action came after the league's weekly review of all "targeting and unnecessary roughness hits."

Bucannon's hit came late in the fourth quarter of Washington State's 24-10 victory over Eastern Washington. After an incomplete pass, Bucannon hit receiver Greg Herd, who left the game with a concussion.
