SEATTLE (AP) - The state's largest university likes to demand you "Bow down to Washington!" But the Huskies have rolled over. Again.

The Cougars? Toothless. Also winless. Same with Eastern Washington. Oh, at least we have the Seahaw ... uh, never mind. Seattle's NFL team is 0-2 for the first time since 2002.

It's apparently the first time the Seahawks, Huskies, Cougars and Eagles have all started the same season 0-2.

Plus, the Sonics are now the Oklahoma City Thunder, whatever that is. And let's not even mention the Mariners are still playing, trying to avoid being the first baseball team to lose 100 games with a $100 million player payroll.

It's a September to forget in Washington.

Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren feels the need to give the state's sports fans something - ANYTHING! - to cheer about.

"That's one of the things I've said I'm as proud of as anything, is the excitement and the feeling our fans have for the team," Holmgren said before his four-time NFC West champions lost at home to San Francisco last weekend, a follow-up to a 34-10 face plant at Buffalo the week before.

That feeling now: numb.

Washington is 0-3 with a brutal schedule and just lost on national TV 55-14 to No. 2 Oklahoma, the worst margin of defeat in a home game since 1929. Huskies coach Tyrone Willingham, 11-28 at UW, may not keep his job beyond this season.

Washington State has allowed opponents to score 39, 66 and 45 points as it lost to Oklahoma State, California and Baylor. Not exactly a smooth start to Paul Wulff's coaching career at his alma mater.

At least Eastern almost beat Colorado of the Big 12 this month, before losing late.

"I'm tired of getting congratulated for a loss," said Beau Baldwin, in his first season succeeding Wulff with the Eagles.

But, hey, we can always thank our Evergreens we have Central Washington, the Seattle Storm and even Western Washington, which at least has one football win entering Saturday's game in Cheney against EWU.

The Division II CWU Wildcats from Ellensburg have the only winning football team in the state right now. They are 3-0 and ranked No. 8 in the nation. The overwhelming favorites in their conference, the Wildcats have rallied from big deficits in two of their three wins.

Central's roster also includes a number of transfers from Washington and Washington State, many with friends still around Pullman and Seattle.

And, yes, the Wildcats have kept a close eye on what is happening at their former schools. They must be laughing, even if they don't admit it.

"I think we do kind of look at it (with) a little bit of pride. In the time I've been here the last three or four years we've had the most successful team in the state win-and-loss wise," Central quarterback Mike Reilly said in a telephone interview Tuesday.

He's a transfer from WSU who has led the Wildcats to a 27-10 mark since the beginning of the 2005 season.

"We've put together quite a few wins," Reilly said. "Looking around and seeing how other teams have struggled gives an appreciation for the seasons we've had."

Storm star guard Sue Bird just returned from China, where she won a gold medal with the United States' women's basketball team. Yet she's aware her team's appearance in the WNBA playoffs that begin this weekend is filling a void in Seattle's morbid sports scene.

"It's fun. We're right now, other than U-Dub, we're the lone basketball representative in terms of professional sports, the only team here," Bird said. "The fact that we are in the playoffs, hopefully the community and city will get behind us and hopefully we can be that one positive note.

"But with that being said, I'm sure the other teams will turn that around. I have no doubt about that."

To which the state's sports fans say, "Any day now."
