RENTON, Wash. (AP) - The Seahawks have placed expected long snapper Tyler Schmitt on the season-ending injured reserve list.
Seattle went through three snappers for kicks last season, then made Schmitt its first drafted long snapper in April. Earlier this month, coach Mike Holmgren said he really liked the rookie but Schmitt missed most of training camp with what the team said was a sore back.
Tim Lindsey will apparently be the snapper to begin the season. He was signed off his honeymoon two weeks ago.
Seattle also placed special teams player Will Herring on the physically unable to perform list. It released wide receiver Joel Filani and cornerback Omare Lowe and placed tackle William Robinson on injured reserve.
The team must cut 22 more players by Saturday to set its roster for the regular season.
