Seahawks get speedy Deon Butler in 3rd round
By GREGG BELL, AP Sports Writer
RENTON, Wash. (AP) - The Seahawks have selected wide receiver Deon Butler of Penn State in the third round of the NFL draft.
The team traded back into the round on Sunday morning with Philadelphia to bolster a position where the Seahawks had seven injuries last season. The Seahawks gave the Eagles a third-round choice in 2010, plus picks in the fifth round (No. 137 overall) and seventh round (No. 213) on Sunday. The 5-foot-10, 182-pound Butler walked on to Penn State as a defensive back who switched to offense as a sophomore. He then used his speed to break the Nittany Lions' career record with 179 receptions. Butler's draft stocked soared when he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.38 seconds at the league's scouting combine in February. |
