49ers fans raising funds for billboard near CenturyLink Field
SEATTLE -- When the 12th man flag flew over Candlestick Park nearly two weeks ago, it struck a nerve and prompted 49ers fans to retaliate.

"We got a little irritated", said 49ers fan Aasheesh Shravah. "We started a Facebook group, started chatting about what we could do."

The 49ers fans decided to get even they would raise money to put up a billboard near CenturyLink Field.

"On one part of me I can see the appeal," said Seahawks fan Jesse Smith. "I think it builds camaraderie amongst the fan base to do stuff like that."

As of Wednesday afternoon, the 49ers "faithful" have raised $9,767. They estimate the billboard will cost around $7,000.

"What a waste of time, what a waste of money," said Seahawks fan Carl Pierce.

The billboard will likely feature the 49ers five Super Bowl trophies and a photo of "The Catch" -- the famous game-winning touchdown reception by tight end Dwight Clark in the 49ers victory over the Dallas Cowboys in 1982.

"Yeah, that would sting a little bit to have that in our home, " said Seahawks fan Cory Brown.

Shravah said he's dealing with two outdoor advertising companies and hasn't decided where to purchase the billboard. They're considering a digital billboard, with multiple images, along I-5 in Fife or somewhere near CenturyLink.

"The way I see it this is fun and it's good for the NFL," said Shravah. "The Hawks fans are very passionate and 49ers fans are passionate."

Any remaining money will be donated to the Seattle Children's Hospital.
