Seattle still in running to host World Cup
SEATTLE (AP) - Seattle has advanced as one of 27 cities into the next round of consideration for hosting World Cup matches in 2018 or 2022.
The USA Bid Committee announced Thursday that Husky Stadium and Qwest Field are still being considered should the United States be chosen as a host nation by FIFA, soccer's world governing body.
The USA Bid Committee is expected to determine 18 final cities for consideration by next May.
FIFA will announce host nations for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups in December 2010.
Mayor Greg Nickels said being a host city would be an extraordinary opportunity for residents, businesses and "our enthusiastic Seattle soccer fans."
