Do police have to follow the "no holding cell phones while driving" law?By Rachelle MurciaIf you see a police officer with a phone up to his or her ear and they are driving their patrol car, they are not breaking the law. The new state law says anyone driving an authorized emergency vehicle like a patrol car, fire truck, or ambulance, is allowed to talk on their cell phones. And, tow truck drivers are allowed to put a cell phone to their ears too as long as they are answering a call to get a stalled car out of the way of traffic. That also constitutes an emergency.
