Is it legal to drive with pets on your lap?

Yes, it is legal to have Fido or Boots in your lap, but our friends at the Washington State Patrol sure don’t suggest it. There is no law against that, eating, or putting on your make-up and going down the road, but it can be a big distraction. And, if you start swerving, they can pull you over. So, not only could it be costly, it’s really isn’t safe for your pets. It’s the safest way to travel in your car with a pet is putting them in an approved carrier and placing them in the backseat.
