Why do major highways need to close during the day?

I know we are in the midst of a major construction season and drivers are getting frustrated with all of the closures. But, the WSDOT and their crews promise they aren’t just trying to make drivers mad. There is a reason for them.

One is safety. Working in the dark is more dangerous. And, its more expensive, too. They are trying to save some very important tax dollars and stretch them further to get more roads repaired and built.

And in some case, take for example the panel replacement project on I-5, they need more time. Pouring the concrete and letting it set takes 18 hours so round the clock closures are their only option.
