When traveling the speed limit in the HOV lane, do I have to move over for someone speeding?

This is a frequent question I get about the HOV lane. Although it is commonly believed that the far left lane is the passing lane, that does not include the HOV lane.

You do not have to move over to let someone go around you. It is important to drive the speed limit as to not impede the flow of traffic. And the Washington State Patrol recommends getting over if there is room if someone is tailgating you. It’s a courtesy and safety issue. They would hate for a road rage incident to be the outcome if it was an avoidable situation.
