Is it illegal to drive barefoot?

No it is not, but it is not recommended, nor is driving with flip flops recommended by police. My friends at the Washington State Patrol say flip flops can get caught more easily on the pedals and if you are barefoot and break down, that would not be a good thing. Sturdy, regular shoes are recommended to be worn while driving.
