Steve Pool graduated from Tyee High School in Seattle where he served as student body president. Following graduation he attended the University of Washington majoring in Communications. While at UW he received an outstanding minority student award, and the Samuel Kelly Award for outstanding community Service. He graduated in 1978. He then went to work for KOMO TV (ABC) in Seattle as a writer and subsequently was appointed to a reporter position.

Since that time he has also served as a, feature reporter, sports reporter and program producer. In the mid 80’s he changed directions and became the stations lead weather forecaster after going back to the University of Washington to receive specialized training in atmospheric sciences from renowned professor Clifford Mass. In the late 80’s Steve began hosting the program Front Runners, a Saturday evening magazine show, which was soon syndicated in markets around the U.S. and the world. Front Runners ended its run in the early 90’s after becoming one of the most awarded programs in Seattle television history with nearly 100 Emmy’s.

Over his many years of broadcasting Steve’s awards include: Seven Emmy Awards and many additional nominations, a Sigma Delta Chi Society of Professional Journalism award, New York International Film Festival Gold and Bronze Medals, National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences American Scene Award, 2 “Telly” Awards, an Academy of Religious Broadcasting Lifetime Achievement Award, and he was also part of the news team that was the 2001 and 2007 winner of the Edward R. Murrow Award as the best newscast in America. In 2004 he was inducted into the University of Washington Communications Hall of Fame. In addition Steve has appeared more than seventy times on ABC’s Good Morning America, has been featured on the cover of Seattle Magazine twice and been named numerous times as the readers choice for best weatherman in Seattle Magazine’s “Best of Seattle”. Twice he was also named the best weathercaster in the “Seattle Weekly” annual newspaper poll. He is also featured in the March 06 edition of Esquire Magazine.

Currently he also provides daily weather information for the Seattle He can heard daily on three Seattle Radio stations, including KOMO Radio-news and information, KISS radio-contemporary and KPLZ Radio as well. In addition to his work, he serves on several charitable boards including the Museum of Flight in Seattle and the Boy Scouts of America Rainer Council “ScoutReach” board. Steve also joined with fellow UW husky alum and Hall of Fame NFL great Warren Moon, in hosting a golf tournament that has raised nearly 2.5 million dollars for Seattle Children’s.

Steve has published a book on Northwest Weather called “Somewhere, I was Right”, a CD program called “Fearless Public Speaking” and Twelve children’s program in a series call “I Wanna Be” which provides positive information on a range of professions kids may someday seek to obtain.

  • Along with wife Michelle, established a half million dollar endowment at Seattle Children’s to provide funds for low income families whose kids are in the hospital.
  • Other organizations helped over the past 30 years include: The Salvation Army, Seattle Mentoring, Youth Eastside Services, Boys and Girls Club, Poncho for the Arts, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Auction of Northwest Wines, Cystic fibrosis Foundation, The Red Cross, ALS foundation, Susan G. Komen, American Heart Association, Congressional Medal of Honor Society, Tuskegee Airmen and dozens of public schools.

SEATTLE - I will be watching the Super Bowl halftime show with heightened interest this weekend. The man on the stage is an old acquaintance of mine. You see many years ago I went to Hawaii to do a story on a young Elvis impersonator.

I was told he had quite a future in the music business.
