It's the weekend, and that means it's time to find some pretty pictures to hold the blog over until next week, and this weekend's version might just be in the Top 5...
First of all, take a look at this time lapse video that has been posted of the Perseid Meteor Shower raging above Mt. Rainier last week. Note how some of the meteor tails squiggle at the end:
(I'm guessing those flashes are perhaps passing car headlights? I suppose it could be photo flashes, but seems like that's a silly way to take photographs of the meteors :) ) Also note the lights atop the mountain from a group of campers.
Speaking of space, how about we inverse the camera and look at a photo taken from space toward Earth?
This incredible photo was taken from NASA Astronaut Doug Wheelock from inside the International Space Station of the Northern Lights that danced above the polar skies on Aug. 13.
SpaceWeather.com (where I was alerted to this photo) says we could get another increase in auroras on Aug. 24 and to keep an eye on Wheelock's Twitter feed (@Astro_Wheels) as he takes more photos from high above.
