An intense geomagnetic storm raging Friday night brought a rare sight to Western Washington -- the Northern Lights!
YouNews contributor Andrea McMillian captured this photo of the green lights dancing over Whidbey Island.
"I was out taking photos of the stars and the beach, when the northern light appeared over Lopez Island and Anacortes (Skyline.) If I had not already been taking photos I would have missed this shot. What a wonderful rare treat!"

Other sightings reported on my Facebook page have come in from West Seatlte, Bothell, Port Townsend and Graham.
Solar activity is expected to remain high through the weekend and with clear skies entrenched, we might be lucky to see a few displays. Best advice is to go somewhere dark away from city lights and look to the north. The closer to midnight, the better since it's the darkest part of the night, but as this photo proves (which was posted around 11:15 p.m.) you might not have to wait that late.
Thanks Andrea for the photo!
