Breathtaking sunsets litter the Northwest October calendar

We all know when we travel outside the Pacific Northwest, people often wonder how we can stand living in the soggy outpost that many likely think is a suburb of Alaska.

But to those of us who do live here, we know the secret -- the area is not all just rain and gray. There is an inherent beauty to the region that is difficult to match anywhere else.

Case in point, this past October, which would likely have set a record for number of brilliant sunsets had such records been kept. Just thumbing through our YouNews queue and it seemed like there was a postcard-worthy sunrise or sunset every day this month.

Well, actually, it's pretty close.
