It hasn't been this hot this soon in a long time

If nothing else, Mother Nature sure loves irony when it comes to weather.

With our inaugural 90 degree reading of the year at Sea-Tac Airport Saturday, we set more than just the daily high temperature record (those bits of vinyl you see melted to the sidewalk? That's the old record high of 85) we also set a record for earliest 90 degree temperature reading at Sea-Tac Airport. The old record was May 20th, 1962.

It's also the first time since 1983, and only the seventh time overall at Sea-Tac that we've hit 90 at any time in May.
However, if you include the Downtown Federal Building, where the official Seattle records were kept between 1891 and Sea-Tac's arrival in 1945, it has hit 90 four times then, including twice earlier than this date -- May 13th, 1934 and May 14th, 1912. There were two other times it hit 90 in May, so if you go all the way back 107 years, it's only happened 11 times, and two of those were in the same year (1983). So suffice to say, its' rare.

Here is a list of them all, compiled by the National Weather Service:

1.  93 DEGREES  5/21/1963
2.  92 DEGREES  5/28/1983

Most of the coast made it to the mid 70s before the cool air arrived and dropped them quickly back into the 60s.

I just ran the long range forecast out 15 days, and there doesn't seem to be anything so sizzling out there. In fact, the weather makes a turn for the mundane for a while with temperatures hovering within shouting distance of normal once we get past the middle of this week.
