Summer ends up as 5th driest

Summer ends up as 5th driest

Wipers were nearly glued to the windshields this summer due to lack of use, and the statistics agree that rain was in very short supply.

With 1.40" between June 1 and August 31st, Sea-Tac Airport registered their fifth driest such stretch this year.

The driest was in 1987 when just 0.84" fell.  Here is the top five:

  • #1 1987  0.84"
  • #2 2003  0.89"
  • #3 1958  1.21"
  • #4 1970  1.23"
  • #5 2009  1.40"

And for good measure, here are the five wettest, courtesy of UW Research Meteorologist Mark Albright:

  • 58th 1975  5.70"
  • 59th 1964  6.04"
  • 60th 1983  6.14"
  • 61th 2001  6.40"
  • 62th 1968  8.43"

September could have 1.40" in the gauge by the end of Labor Day weekend -- what a turn around! :)
