Poem about July: 'The Better Half'

Astute local poet Carol Smith penned this nice poem about our July weather:
The Better Half
July before you leave, I must
Say thank you for it seems you just
Came through, all be it none too soon
To rescue us from dreary June
Despite the fact that on the Fourth
It was so cold, I’d swear up north
Somewhere above the town of Nome
Is where we were, instead of home
You saw the error of your ways
Through all that picnic spoiling haze
And just like Jekyll versus Hide
Out finally came your dazzling side
So step right up and take a bow
Though late, your warmth may still somehow
Fill every green tomato’s head
With fantasies of turning red
The Better Half
July before you leave, I must
Say thank you for it seems you just
Came through, all be it none too soon
To rescue us from dreary June
Despite the fact that on the Fourth
It was so cold, I’d swear up north
Somewhere above the town of Nome
Is where we were, instead of home
You saw the error of your ways
Through all that picnic spoiling haze
And just like Jekyll versus Hide
Out finally came your dazzling side
So step right up and take a bow
Though late, your warmth may still somehow
Fill every green tomato’s head
With fantasies of turning red
