First time in 22 years Seattle hits 90 in September

It's been a while since it's been this warm in September.
Seattle hit 90 degrees on Friday, the first time we've reached the 90 degree mark in September since 1990. (Yes, last year when we had a stretch of eight days in the 80s, we didn't reach 90.)
Overall, it's just the 8th time since 1945 that Sea-Tac hit 90 in September, the other years coming in 1967, 1979, 1981, and then a four year streak between 1987 and 1990.
The 90 degree reading was also the fifth time in 2012 the temperature hit 90 in Seattle, joining August 4th, 5th, 16th and 17th. It's the third time in the past four years Seattle has had five or more days in the 90s. The average is (was?) three per year.
However, bad timing prevented Friday's 90 from being a record high. The hot September day in 1981 that was over 90 also fell on the 7th and it reached 94 degrees.
While Seattle was among the hottest temperatures recorded, it was even hotter on the coast where Hoquiam hit 92. It was 89 in Forks. Other high temperatures included 88 in Tacoma, Bremerton and North Bend, 89 in Olympia and Renton, 92 in Shelton and 95 in Vancouver. If you wanted to escape the heat, you had to head north where the high was 82 in Everett and Friday Harbor, 81 in Mount Vernon and 79 in Bellingham and Port Angeles.
Saturday will be a little cooler inland, but much cooler along the coast as the marine layer marches up the coastline. Astoria, Ore. soared to 84 degrees at midday but the temperature crashed into the low 60s two hours later as the fog rolled in. They were down in the upper 50s by evening. A similar cooling fate awaits the Washington coast by Saturday and the rest of Western Washington by Sunday, where highs were only expected in the 60s.
We'll even add in some rain for Monday, but long range models suggest another warm-to-hot spell is possible by the end of next week.
I love global warming :)
When it's nice in Seattle you simply cannot beat it! Even though it's really hot the humidity is not there like everywhere else in the country. The only problem I have is that summer in Seattle is way too short for my liking. We were there for 25 years and just couldn't take another rainy 4th of July. So after the kids left....so did we. To Florida where it is a bit toasty but I think I can handle that better than the rain. But Seattle will always be home! :)
You do know Florida gets more rain than Western Washington right?
Â
I was in Florida for a week around Memorial Day. It was stinkin' hot.Â
Â
The only thing that makes living in the south tolerable is air conditioning. Between the heat, mosquitos, and other bugs, it's not all that great down there.
Â
Anyway, You are absolutely right. When it's nice in Seattle it can't be beat.
Please go away....we need rain !
I was a student at SU in 1967, when it hit 90. I remember that some of us went up onto the roof of the dorm and baked there. I'm very light-skinned, and got the first and only suntan of my life that day, with the help of lots of Johnson and Johnson's baby oil.
It was a little warmer than I would have liked at the Puyallup Fair today, but I still can't complain about this weather! What an amazing summer! My children and I have certainly been taking advantage of it!Â
Our summer is almost over. So bring it on!! I also do not like temps in the 90's ... but for now I can tolerate anything, knowing that when our warm weather is gone .... it will be gone for a while!
Oh good. It wasn't just me having a hot flash. It really was a scorcher outside.Â
I remember that time. I was out at Desert Shield. I think it was like 125 in the desert. 90 would have been nice.
 @HonkeyCat My husband says that same thing every time I mention my dislike of the heat. He has a point, but I'd still be happier at about 75°.
75 is just about perfect.
 @HonkeyCat Completely agree.
That's alright because we're going to have a bunch of Crap for weather for the next 9 1/2 months. Makes me sick having less than 8 weeks of half way nice weather in the first place.
@reelin21 You have a simple cure.. leave
@SensationaLies We did and its fantastic!
I'll tell you what, this may go down as the nicest, longest running summer I've ever seen in Seattle. Absolutely perfect temperatures, except for that one stretch in July, with beautiful, blue, cloud free skies. Perfection!

Mike
on sept 22 1990 it wa 96 degrees that day and I know that winter was darn Harsh that year I wonder if we will have the same thing happen this year too?
@wynooheeman I wonder if it was a la nina, nuetral, or el nino winter....not that it matters much these days...the weather seems to do what it wants, not what's forcasted!
Talk about a great day in Seattle, its like winning a major sporting event in the Emerald City..
Enjoy this day, appreciate the warmth and sunny smiles in the Emerald City :)
Long overdue IMO. Wouldn't mind seeing more!
Love it. Keep it coming!
Â
You do realize weather patterns are a mess throughout the world, right?? Thats OK. Go ahead and enjoy the sun. There is certain to be a lot more where that came from.
@SandyBeach Good I am going idle my SUV and Pick up truck to warm the earth.
Your day is coming, no doubt.
I don't know why this is so hard for people to understand. Maybe if the media would actually where our "imported oil" comes from would help, but no its always the middle eastern oil that they want to forcus on.
Actually, we get most of our oil from our northern friends in Canada and our buddies south of the border, Mexico and Venezuela.
Â
I think India and China get most of Iraqs oil.
Â
Â
 @wynooheeman  @SandyBeachÂ
using Iraqi oil!
