Miss the Northwest rain? This video will help

It's been a whopping 25 days since it last rained in Seattle as of Thursday, and aside from some isolated thunderstorms Saturday night, the forecasts don't hold out much hope for any kind of widespread rain still for several more days.
Instead, sunshine and 90-plus degree heat beat down on the Puget Sound region for the third and fourth time this week, and I'll bet many longtime Seattleites might find themselves missing our gentle Northwest rains a bit. I know I sure do.
If so, I've got 5 minutes and 48 seconds of bliss:
This is video shot by YouTube contributor MclaughlinTV of the rains that fell on Seattle on July 3, 2012 (yes, a day before the Fourth of July, which turned out nice.)
I'm not sure what it is about the rain that is so soothing to many, including me, but I for one can watch this video over and over...
But if living in past isn't your thing and you need to reconnect to the gray, check out this relatively new site from the National Weather Service. (Note: as of Thursday, the cameras seem to have not updated since Aug. 13)

Its official intention is to show the current conditions along the bars on the ocean beaches, but for those of us who aren't bar pilots, it provides a live peek in on the coast, which is commonly gray and cloudy even when the sun's out here. (This Thursday not included -- it's sunny and hot there too. But the clouds are expected to be back on Friday.)
It can also be a great resource if you're planning a trip out there to see if you'll find sunshine there as well.
Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go watch that rain video again...
The rain video would be a lot better with out the music to drown out the sound of the rain.  Most of what I heard was the music not the rain. I like the music but was expecting to hear 5+ minutes of rain. I sure miss the rain.
@Netta Sadly where i was filming the rain, there was a plastic roof over the back porch, which made a awful loud sound. Hence the music more over the rain sound. I have a track of just rain sounds i will probably use in the next video.
ahhh... that's more like it. Â Thanks for the cool drizzles.
I do miss it a little bit but it will be back soon enough. Please don't help it along.
I don't miss the rain too much. I miss the snow the most.
rainymood.com is also a nice place to hear the soothing sound of rain.
I agree with Julie, I've lived in northern B.C., Switzerland and the PNW for most of my life and wouldn't trade it for the world. I prefer clear skies and 60 to 65 degrees. We just got back from Cali and more then once I said "how do people live here" the temps were from 75 to 105, winter is my season.
Â
Those of you looking to move here, please dont, it rains everyday and the winters are hell
The Pacific Northwest has the best weather in the nation. It is a bit to hot for me but al least it is not all the time.I was born in Seattle and would not live any place else.I don't think it is gloomy.I love the rain and the cool overcast days.We have four seasons.Portland rains more than Seattle.I don't know why Seattle gets all the hype about the rain.
I love the video, and in a way agree w/Shelli Johnson...maybe they can make another video w/just the sound of the rain, and keep this one w/the music...both would be wonderful.
So beautiful. However, my husband nad I feel it would have been perfect with no music. If we could hear the just the rainfall it would be soothing. The music is beautiful just the rain is better right now. Great job, thanks for sharing.
@Shelli Johnson rainymood.com is just the rainfall. I fell in love with it when i was on the other side of the state and it would not rain often.Â
I can't say I miss the rain. I'm loving the summer and I can wait until November to get wet.
I'm ready for fall...
Listen very carefully everyone; stop complaining about the weather when it is sunny and warm. I am so tired of this; its cold and dreary 9 months out of the year, and the majority of seattle whines wishing the weather was sunny and warm. When we get warm weather, the same people complain that they wish it was cooler and rainy.
Â
Stop. Enjoy the diversity, while short lived. You will get what you want soon, for the next 9 months. And then you all will be complaining again, wishing for warmer and sunny weather.
@northwestsurfer Some of us live here because of the rainy weather. Maybe you should move to California.Â
 @Smashquail EXACTLY!
@Smashquail Ha, I'm not opposed to rainy weather, try some critical thinking. I'm talking about people that are never satisified with the weather, when it rains or when it is sunny and warm. I am from Arizona and was stationed at Ft Lewis in 1997 and was glad to have been - I requested it. I chose to stay here after I got out of the Army in 1999 because I like the seasons. I just dont like people who complain incessantly about the weather.
@mysterywhiteboy @Smashquail haha, you call that critical thinking?? I'm not complaining about the weather, I love it. I love the heat and sunshine, and I dont mind the rain and cooler weather. I do not like the complaining.
Â
You completely misread my post. Expressing preference is saying "I wish it was cooler and rainy", and then enjoying that weather when it happens. My point was those people who complain about all of the weather, wishing it was one or the other, then complaining about the weather when they get what they wished for (only to wish it was the opposite). My fingers are getting sore from repeating myself.
@northwestsurfer  @Smashquail it's highly unlikely the *same* person is complaining about rainy weather AND sunny, hot weather. what you're seeing is different people expressing their preference. that, my friend, is critical thinking...
No i do not miss it...but thanks anyway!
It feels cooler just watching it. One thing I love about living here is having all four seasons without the extremes. We are so lucky.
Ah, that was nice, so relaxing. How much do I like rain? I have several rain CDs that I can play to help me through days like this.
We'll get 10 months of it for real soon enough. Â I don't need a video! Â :-)
Â
Should couple it with "Really love the rain" by Toots and the Maytals.
This is GREAT! Thank you for posting. Â It's nice to hear such a positive message about the rain. Â It's wonderful and I'm so thankful to live in such an amazing, beautiful, perfect city! Â Â I'm so excited for the rain to return and all the beautiful fall colors...AND the snow! Â I think I'll change my desktop theme to winter also....and shop for some new rain boots! Â :-)
Â
Love the rain video. I will probably play it many times over the next couple of days. Also changed my desktop theme to a winter one with lots of snow!Â
