Mt. Rainier puts on brilliant show for final sunrise of 2012

Just like the firework shows always save the best for their finale, Mt. Rainier is helping say goodbye to 2012 in dazzling fashion.
What you are seeing is our largest mountain casting its shadow on the sky.
The skies were painted with clouds at just the right altitude for the easel, and during our late autumn and early winter, the sun rises in just the right spot on the horizon to be directly behind Mt. Rainier for the trick to work.
Happy 2013!
I caught this at work in downtown Tacoma this morning, and it took my breath away. I've lived here my entire life, and never have I seen anything so beautiful as this. The picture doesn't do the crispness of the color justice. It was definitely a sight to behold.
One of the reasons I am a commercial photographer by trade and a landscape photographer by hobby. Â Nothing better than getting up early, hitting the trail and capturing this kind of stuff without an art director breathing down your neck, or a deadline to meet or actors to deal with etc.Â
That is flippin' awesome! I see Mt. Rainier everyday on my commute. It is always so beautiful.
Too foggy here to see anything. Too bad.
We didn't quite get to see the shadow off Mount Rainier this morning, but the sunrise was still pretty impressive over Bellevue today. The interesting part was that my brother happened to be boarding a plane in South Carolina this morning, and posted a picture on Facebook of a surprisingly similar sunrise this morning from the other side of the country...
