One big advantage of our rare autumn sunshine streak is that it's coincided with an increase in solar activity as we approach the maximum in the sun's 11-year sunspot cycle.
Sure enough a solar storm has been strong enough to bring out a dazzling show of the Northern Lights over the past two nights around northern Washington.
Chris Teren of Teren Photography had his camera ready when the show began Monday night up in the San Juan Islands.
He spent about 4 hours out watching the show and this 30 second video is the time lapse of the period from 12:20 a.m. - 1:20 a.m., taken from Reuben Tarte County Park on San Juan Island.
Sunday night's show was also impressive. Here is video from Hansville from SkunkBayWeather.com:

Clouds are going to be more of a factor for the coming days (months?) so it sure was a treat to get these past two days.
