Seattle finishes up year among wettest on record

Seattle finishes up year among wettest on record

Did it seem like it rained a lot in 2012? Especially at the end? You would be correct.

Seattle finished up the year with 48.26" of rain -- good for 7th wettest on record at Sea-Tac Airport.

It was a pretty impressive feat considering we essentially tied August and September behind our backs with only 0.03" between the two months.

We also were among the top on the chart of wettest Autumn (Oct 1-Dec. 31) at Sea-Tac, finishing in 6th place overall.  One chart we did top? Number of rainy days in December -- 27 of the 31 days had measurable rain (17 of them with at least 0.10"!) The old record was 26.

One other interesting note on the chart is 2006. That year also had a very dry summer -- just 0.08" between July and August and actually was home to a lot of the extended dry-stretch records that we broke this past summer. And as you can see, that year as well tried to make up for lost time with a very wet autumn.
