When Does Spring Begin?

When Does Spring Begin?

By Steve Pool

SEATTLE - According to the world clock, which uses the old Greenwich Mean Time, spring officially begins March 20th at 6:49 a.m.

But Seattle is 8 hours behind GMT, so spring for us actually begins tonight at 10:49. That means half the country (the Eastern and Central Time Zones) start spring on March 20, but the western time zones get to think about spring a day earlier, so to speak.

If you'd like to get a head start on the other seasons of the year, plan on a summer dinner picnic, as summer will begin on June 20th at 5:57 p.m. The leaves will start their turn on Sept. 22 at 9:30 a.m. with the start of fall.

And for those who love snow and are already looking forward to next winter, that begins on Dec. 21 at 4:42 a.m.
