If you're in high school or before, just be sure to do well in the math and science classes. You'll need that basis for college. Once you graduate, there are hundreds of colleges across the country that offer degrees in Atmospheric Sciences or Meteorology.
There are plenty of different areas inside the meteorology field. Aside from day-to-day weather forecasting, there's plenty of opportunity to get into research -- where you try and make weather forecasting even more accurate. Or, you can go into teaching at a university -- where you try to make the weather forecasters more accurate.
