When Does Spring Begin?

When Does Spring Begin?

By Steve Pool

SEATTLE - According to the world clock, which uses the old Greenwich Mean Time, spring officially begins March 21st at 1 o'clock in the morning. But Seattle is 8 hours behind GMT, so spring for us actually begins today at 5 p.m. on the dot.

If you'd like to get a head start on the other seasons of the year, plan on a summer lunchtime picnic, as summer will begin on June 21st just after noon at 12:10 p.m. But you'll have to get up really early to witness the autumn equinox, which will happen at 3:47 a.m.

And for those who love snow and are already looking forward to next winter, that begins on Dec. 21 at 4:42 a.m.
