Has Seattle Ever Had A Snow-less Winter?

SEATTLE - As the winter season draws to a close, there have been an awful lot of unused tire chains, dusty bobsleds, and unhappy schoolkids as snowfall has yet to be seen around the Puget Sound area.

Seattle usually averages 12 inches of snow a year, but how often to we see a zero in the snow total column for a winter? It's pretty rare.

In the recorded weather history of Seattle, dating back to the late 1800s, there has only been *one* winter where we didn't record any snow: the winter of 1991-1992.

If by some luck of Mother Nature, we do manage to get some late-winter snow in March (and remember, it snowed on the first day of spring last year), it would be the latest first-snow-of-the-season since 1926.
