This is private initiative in a public space. A public walk runs next to Bob’s
Renton Highlands home. The lane is a pedestrian walkway between two
housing developments-connecting 146th Pl SE and 146th Ave SE, next to
Maplewood Park.

Several years ago Bob decided to extend the decorations beyond his yard and into the “Lane”. Candy Cane Lane was born.

He began with one arch made of an old bed frame-later he used PVC pipe
and rope lights for additional arches and a candy cane pinwheel.

The collection of plastic figurines is the most intriguing part of the whole show. Many visitors never see them because, as Nancy Meyer says “people drive by and never get out of their cars-we want them to walk the
lane.” Walk through-get a candy cane, sign the guest book and listen to a few Christmas songs.

Bob is a dedicated scrounger. He is becoming an expert on classic plastic
figures old and new. His search for the figures has taken him to Craigs List, eBay, garage sales, and even an Ocean Shores thrift shop, where he rescued a very dusty plastic Santa, long forgotten in a back storeroom.

There are over 60 figures here. These classic decorations; familiar to any baby boomer are making a comeback. Want to buy one? Bob advises, search the hardware store early next year-before these Christmas icons fly off the shelves.
