Gimli's Story

Gimli is the funniest parrot ever!! Gimli, like most parrots, is a smart parrot. Attached to this is a video that was taken at my home in Castlerock. While I was doing my hair when he found a little cup and started playing with it. Gimli loves to cuddle in blankets with me or by himself, as you can see in the 1st photo. Gimli even "hugs" me. It's hard to explain, but I'll try.. He grabs the shoulder part of my shirt with both feet, hangs upside down and turns his back on my neck, that's his way of hugging.
The 2nd photo is Gimli laying on his back for me. It took me a long time for me to get him to do that. It's all about trust with birds, if they can't/don't trust you, they won't do what you want them to.
In the 3rd photo, one day while I was playing on my key board when he decided he wanted to play too. So, he jumped on the keyboard. But, when he jumped on it, the sound from the keyboard scared him so I had to turn it off.
Gimli is a Sun Conure, and if you are thinking about adopting one, be warned. They are very loud squawkers and are not recommended for apartment living. Sun Conures are known for their clownish behavior, and are often called the "mini" Macaw. Most Sun Conures are not talkers. They can be trained to speak, but most are just too stubborn. Gimli is 6 years old and he hasn't said a word yet. There are serveral breeds of conures, and if you want one, do your research first.
