Back in May four ex-soldiers who served in Iraq along side fallen Marine Cpl. Christopher G. Scherer and injured Sgt. Leo Chargalauf embarked on a 9000 mile bike ride to remember their fallen comrade and raise funds to improve the life seriously injured Sgt. Chargalauf. Leaving originally from East Northport, NY with little fan fair and not even a mention of their endeavor in the local paper the four have rode with determination and a goal of arriving at the USMC base Camp Pendleton in San Diego, CA. This week the team of riders will pass through our community. Along the way they have been relying merely on word of mouth to earn donations for their cause.
These courageous individuals who have sacrificed more than most of us could imagine deserve our recognition and thanks weather you agree with the war or not. So while they may not ask directly for it, lets all take a moment to thank them for their commitment to the United States and their fellow marines.
