In the Chennault Beach neighborhood, a Toyota 4 Runner caught fire in the intersection. Neighbors converged with household fire extinguishers to assist the driver but ultimately had to retreat for fear possible explosion. Quick thinking lead to neighbors attaching multiple garden hoses to put out the flames. As the flames engulfed the car, police arrived at the scene and pulled everyone back until eventually the fire trucks arrival. According to those on the scene the estimated response time was at least 20 minutes after the initial phone call to 911, which is cause for concern because the nearest fire station is about a 2 minute drive.
